In the heart of the 'old town'

'Maison des 9 Jets' has a uniquely picturesque location in la place des Neuf Jets, meaning the square with 9 fountains, right in the heart of Céret.

Formerly protected by high stone walls (some parts are still to be seen), Céret is now one of the loveliest small towns in the area. Majestic plane trees line the squares and boulevards surrounding the old part where the maze of winding, cobbled streets is kept cool by constant streams of fresh spring water running down from the mountains.

In la place Neuf Jets, the fountain (dating back to 1313 and crowned with a Castilian lion in 1473 by the Catholic queen Isabelle and king Ferdinand II  of Aragon) has recently been restored to its former glory, and is once more a popular subject for artists.

With its pavement restaurants and bars, its shady trees and welcoming benches, the pedestrian-only Place des Neuf Jets has all the charm of a traditional southern town.

There is practically no trafic through the square.
